There are several different types of denture options available, depending on patient circumstances. These include the immediate, complete and removable dentures, implant-supported partial and over-dentures.
These appliances are worn during the day and removed and cleaned at bedtime.
A putty-like material is used to make molds of the mouth. These molds are then used to make plaster-of-paris casts. The casts are models used to build the denture base upon. The denture base can be made of plastic or chrome metal, depending on usage and aesthetics.
The lab technician will make wax blocks to fit the custom models. These will be used to set up the proper bite. A tooth shade is picked.
The next "try-in" appointment the chosen teeth will be set up in wax and tooth fit, size, shape, length and color will be checked to make sure the denture will look as natural as possible.
At the final "insert" appointment the denture(s) will be given to the patient. Any final adjustments, such as bite, will be made at this time.
You may be needed to be seen again once the new dentures haven been worn and eaten with for additional adjustments.
Dentures can be a good solution for patients with missing teeth or who will be going through a period of healing after implant placement and will need something to chew and smile with. They are fashioned to give the appearance of a natural set of teeth and are custom made to match the shading and shape of the natural teeth already present.
